Cetacean not cesarean!

Certainly not Hbr Porpoise (we see often here). I'd estimate the thin, pointed curved fin at about 2 feet tall. Looks spot on for Risso's shape but appreciate other species with similar shape. Enlarged original images should be far clearer than those posted here as looked sharp and clear on boc.

Hi Carl, the cesarean was c500m to 1km offshore, easily seen through bins with good views on 30× through scope. We saw dorsal fin break surface about 8 times, no blows, no body ever visible except for around fin base which seemed paler grey than fin itself. Prob feeding, small bass leaping.

Those needing mass-downloads, such as for Red List assessments can arrange this for free. This isn't always the case with submissions to 'local routes', with some (but far from all) charging for such access. In such circumstances, your records may be invisible to those unwilling or unable to pay.

Adding records to iRecord is straightforward and quick to do. As James points out, they are then searchable by anyone with an account. Once accepted, they are uploaded, in batches, to the National Biodiversity Network database, searchable, with others from multiple sources, by anyone.

Hi Andtew. The Soldierflies (and allies) seem to be on the wing early this year. Plenty of Beris chalybata in one central Norfolk Wood yesterday. Try sweeping or looking for basking flies on herb-layer leaves and flowers. And try Empis tessellata for your pinned empid.
