Weirdly reminded today of just how impactful the album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was to my youth. Good art makes you feel something, great art makes impact, and that album was a masterpiece front to back.

Been reflecting on the role Toxic individualism plays in corporate culture. Some pretty significant signals - Meetings are seen as a negative thing - conversations are shut down because they're taking to much time - squeaky wheel gets the grease - Command and Control is the soup du jour. What else?

Fucking hell. Leadership can be incredibly fulfilling and draining all at the same time. Like simultaneously some of the most impactful work and some of the most difficult work I have ever done.

Does the binary nature of "What went well" and "What didn't go well" annoy anyone else? It's been awhile since I've gotten into a fight about how Mechanistic Reasoning is hiding in our mental models so much that we don't even realize they're hiding in there.

Also hi new followers, happy to see a space that feels like old tech twitter again. Not sure how much I will engage in it because *gestures at the general state of the world* but it feels good that it's here.

Sad to see corporate policies erase years of work in OSS. I guess we should have been more prepared but damn like that's some bullshit to just kill a project and not tell anyone associated with it.

A sign of a good manager is that they read through what you're saying and ask deeper questions to find out more. This is true for both what you're excited about and what is bothering you. And if you're midwestern, when you say everything is fine. They seek to understand and find common ground.

I am going absolutely ape shit over this CNCF whitepaper on Platforms. It's like they took everything we've been building at Total Expert over the last 3 years and turned into a whitepaper. It's validation of what we've been doing is insane: tag-app-delivery.cncf.io/whitepapers/...

No Brians, I don’t want to schedule a call to talk about how your product I’ve never heard of can help me do things I’m already doing. Seriously are they all named Brian? Feels like a conspiracy.

This might sound cynical, but it really isn’t. I played way too much poker in college, like easily hundreds of hours at a poker table. I had no idea how much that would prepare me for the corporate world. Intuition in reading people is an insanely valuable skill.
