Now, what's this? The Google translate of this says it's "Spicy Vegan Hairy Tripe"!!! Oooookaay!! I'll give it a go, but will make sure I've got a handful of chocolate or licorice ready, just in case ;-)

Thanks so much. 😃

Well, I must of been good then! The card says "I assume you will spend the shortest day stargazing so have packed some local treats & some from recent travels for you to enjoy!" Fantastic! Can't wait for the next clear night now ✨️

WOHOOO!!! What a treat to see my #MWSecretSantaAoNZ gift here when I got home. Thank you so much, and loving the starry box. Now let's see whether I've been naughty or nice....

Tāhuna Glenorchy International Dark Sky Sanctuary was the venue for Sunday night. A fantastic evening of toasted marshmallows, mulled wine and expert guided star gazing was enjoyed by 50 or so at the Headwaters. Rangi Takō completed the night and Otago's #InternationalDarkSkyWeek

Saturday was the opening of Professor Brian Boyle's fantastic SkyBox at Antimony Observatory in Kawarau Gibbston International Dark Sky Park. This converted shipping container now lets visitors escape into the depths of space with an incredible display of astrophotography on multiple screens.

Next, it was on to Naseby for their ANZAC Day Astronomy Event organized by the community dark sky team, who are very close to achieving International Dark Sky Community status. Over 50 people (nearly most the village!!) took part in events including screening of the Winterstellar movie Rangi Takō.

Here's a few highlights from how we celebrated International Dark Sky Week in Otago. It all started at the Vulcan pub in St Bathan's where, between pints, the local community association gave their support to the Winterstellar Astro Site program to get recognition of their perfect dark skies.

Stop off at Vicky's bench on the way to Naseby night sky event this afternoon. Always in our thoughts at the start of a new Winterstellar season.

There's also the family and dog of course. This fella shares some excellent adventures with us still, although occasionally needs lifting over styles now.

So good to see #MWSecretSantaAoNZ kicking off again. The best of the socials, ever!

Most of my work, and free time is now wrapped up with the unique and glorious night skies of Central Otago. Protecting it, celebrating it, and, if any time is left, capturing it with my camera.

I figured the strength of last night's Aurora might provide some unique opportunities. Here's three hours from behind the clock on the hill over Alexandra, Otago. #auroraaustralis #alexandra #aurora
