To your point, Steve Wozniak wanted to make calculators for HP because of their reputation and culture. In this video, where he describes the calculator division, it certainly sounds moat-like.

"Moat" comes from Buffett. From his 2007 letter: "You can count, though, on the moat of the Mayo Clinic to endure, even though you can’t name its CEO." So, a culture of excellence can be a moat, but I interpret "doing it better than everyone else" as more ephemeral. Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

Isn't it the inverse? A moat is a defensible advantage so strong that even idiots could run the company. Anything can be a moat, except execution.

I'm mostly in the materialist camp myself too, but "you could totally run a consciousness on Excel" is too strong of a claim for me. I believe that it's likely to be true, but there's still way too much we don't know to state it with that much certainty.

Steelman: We don't know enough yet to rule out that some component of consciousness might be fundamentally incomputable (computational irreducibility, microtubules, etc.). That there really is something magical happening in the brain (maybe quantum whatever, unknown metaphysics, or Divine Will).

The more the status quo favors someone, the more they favor status quo bias.

Overall, I'm happy with how the first football season is going so far. Starting to see a liftoff in traffic🚀

My sister also reposted this TikTok to YouTube shorts, were it also did well.

Some of the direct traffic might have been coming from this video too.

I'm not able to directly attribute traffic to the Reddit post (I guess I need to include utm link parameters in my links?), but I did see a spike of 70 "direct" traffic first users on the 5th which is probably mostly Reddit.
