This one. If you don’t like it getting dark at 4, get up earlier :)

We’re at the point of cutting ours back before I do the final grass cut of the year. We also have to clear a load of windfall fungus-infected cooking apples from the grass after Storm Amy before I can do that.

Not just England. The US as well, both taking lessons in how to create a themuns to blame for everything.

I’m just under 54.6° North and… we don’t have any tomato plants. Do raspberries that kept going and going into September count?

John, are you being sensible again?
September 14, 2025 at 7:17 PM
In that case it would be “just 30.5 seconds”

Excellent, excellent job.

I am so sorry it’s necessary.

It’s a privilege we don’t have in Ireland. On the other hand even the midlands are only a day trip from the seaside.

Was that conclusion ever in doubt?

Thought of another responsibility. Giving the organist and Rector filthy looks when for the umpteenth week in a row they’ve both forgotten their church keys and are waiting outside for you to turn up and let them in.
August 1, 2025 at 5:48 PM
People’s churchwarden or rector’s churchwarden?
August 1, 2025 at 5:43 PM
And one more in Ireland. Be a trustee of the charity that is the parish, even though the Glebe is vested in the charity that is the church. Confused yet? :)

But there is at least one situation where a churchwarden has a power of arrest according to Alfie Moore in It’s a fair cop.

That one probably doesn’t apply in the CoI.

Never having been a church warden myself, but having been both secretary and treasurer, I thought it was find/corral sidespeople, hand out books, use wands of office to conduct minister and guest preacher behind choir if required, count the congregation and count the cash collection but not FWO
August 1, 2025 at 5:16 PM
Why, are you getting married during it? ;)
June 30, 2025 at 10:06 AM
That’s why the anti-immigration protestors in Belfast had a preacher taking the name of the Lord in vain to justify their xenophobia, but they were badly outnumbered by us. Apparently my bald spot made it onto RTE.

Christian values. Presumably not including any values actually found in the Bible.
June 2, 2025 at 3:02 PM
Me too. Married 12 years, responsible job over £30k, written poetry, played ball, all the stuff RFK says I can’t do because I’m autistic.

I was never very good at sport though.

Honest opinion:

It could almost be guaranteed that a trade deal with a Democrat in the White House would not be favourable to the UK, never mind a deal with a bad faith actor such as the current inhabitant.

You might not feel it, but the people who matter think you’re awesome, and we are here when you need it.

Isn’t HuffPost a bit liberal for him?

But yes. Freedom of speech for them, not for anybody else.

Or as I just put it on Facebook, “stop making Putin hit you”
