For #tombtuesday here is a Bronze Age barrow, that also contained Anglo Saxon and Medieval burials, in a churchyard.
The photo shows a Bronze Age burial mound in a churchyard. The church, dating back to the 12th century can be seen in the background.

Barbury Castle, taken from the Ridgeway, looking eastwards. Just visible on the horizon to the left is Liddington Castle.

Black and white photo of the Canal Saint-Martin, Paris, taken in the mid 2000s. It is winter, as the trees lining the canal are without leaves, and there is a slight mist/haze to the distance. There are slight ripples on the water, indicating a light breeze, that distort the reflections of the trees. The canal leads to the last lock before it joins the Seine. People can be seen walking across a footbridge at the far end of the lock.

The glove is light in colour, from the right hand, and is heavily soiled with a dark material on the fingers and thumb. The cigarette butt, lying to the left of the glove, shows no obvious sign of having been lit.

Amsterdam, Spring 2005. It was mid afternoon when the sky dramatically darkened, so I headed into a bar. The rain was torrential, with thunder and lightning. Unfortunately I can’t remember the location.

The streets are sodden with the rain of a sudden storm. Immediately outside of the bar a line of metal and wicker chairs are facing the photographer, empty. A pot plant and an ashtray, with one discarded butt, sit on a round marble effect tabletop. In the mid distance a man, dressed in black in a hooded top, is standing in front of a parked car paying for a parking ticket at a machine. A candle, that is inside the bar, can be seen reflected in the window of the bar projected onto the dark bodywork of the parked car. A brake light from a passing car, that is out of the scene, trails across a third of the photo due to the slow shutter speed used. On the opposite side of the road, to the left, posters advertising events are plastered onto an old style, round advertising plinth. The opposite shops have their lights on and these are reflecting on the wet tarmac. An alleyway disappears into the distance.

This is Donnington Bridge, spanning the Thames just south of Oxford. Boat crews were practicing for Eights Week and the splash that can be seen in the foreground is from an oar of a passing boat. Early 2000s. Tri-X

A black and white photograph taken under Donnington Bridge, Oxford. The structure of the underside of the bridge has rib-like concrete beams spanning the water. The far side of the bridge is covered in graffiti. On the opposite banks crews are prepping their eight person sculling shells for practice for the Oxford Eights Week. In the foreground one of these sculling shells is going, at speed, under the bridge and due to this speed and the slow shutter speed it is just a blur, with one of its oars causing a splash in the water.

I’ve just been looking through some old b+w film photos I took a while back, before being seduced with the immediacy of digital. I really should start using film again.
