All NHL/ECHL affiliations are now sorted for the season.

Most agreement durations are known, some announce "multi-year" durations, while others quietly extend their agreement without fanfare. As one person told me "We extend annually. It would be repetitive to issue a statement every year."

Former Montreal Canadiens owner and general manager Leo Dandurand had a picture in his office of Howie Morenz and Aurel Joliat. Called them the two best hockey players he ever saw.

December 28, 1946: A rare photograph of the first game where a C appeared on a Canadiens uniform, worn by Toe Blake.

Odds are quite high that he's tapping in another Montreal Canadiens championship team.

Another ECHL affiliation shored up for 2025-26 with San Jose extending with Wichita. Only two known affiliations remain to be renewed.
A lot of stability in the affiliations this year.

Happy birthday to the late great Aurèle Joliat whose number was retired in 1971 but forgotten by the Canadiens.

It's been three years, but it's still a trip to have had my name appear on the TSN website regularly.

The Lions are starting to take form for next season. They have the most players signed of all the ECHL teams so far. I added some players below on AHL deals that I forecast being assigned to the Lions to start the season.
At 19 players, there are three roster spots left. (Four for the first 30 days)

The 1909 "Le Canadien" of Ambrose O'Brien only played a single season. George Kennedy was given the Haileybury Comets NHA franchise on Nov 12th, 1910 and named his team the "Canadian Athletic Club".
So the Montreal Canadiens of today claiming that their history started in 1909 is a bit of a stretch.

Butch Bouchard launches himself to try and block a shot by Leafs' Sid Smith. Jacques Plante, with a nice shiner, is well out of his net, ready to make a save.

Yep. Two important omissions from history are the jersey retirements of Aurèle Joliat in 1971 and Elmer Lach in 1975. Although Lach did get another ceremony in 2009.

Martin St. Louis becomes just the sixth Canadiens' coach to receive a coach of the year nomination, and ninth overall, since the Jack Adams Award started being given out in 1974.

Only two wins.

The Lions sweep the Reading Royals, and move on to the second round of the ECHL playoffs!

The Canadiens affiliate looked good, and now await the winner of the Norfolk/Wheeling series. (3-0 Norfolk so far).

Christ of Saint John of the Cross by Salvador Dali.

It depicts an unusual angle of the Crucifixion. I interpret it as God looking down on His Son in His final mortal moments as the land below fades away. Imminent salvation.

Have a blessed Easter celebration, however you wish to celebrate it.

Doug Jarvis was the first recipient of the "Molson 4th Star" for the 1981-1982 season.
It was renamed the "Jacques Beauchamp Trophy" in 1989 in honour of its late namesake. Petr Svoboda was the recipient.
Finally renamed "Jacques-Beauchamp-Molson trophy" in 2009 when Maxim Lapierre won.

I can finally let the cat out of the bag: One of my articles was selected to get published in the annual Hockey Research Journal!
I put a lot of time and passion into the articles I write, and to have the Society for International Hockey Research accept my submission is a proud moment for me.

Nick Suzuki is going to win his fourth straight Molson Cup with the Montreal Canadiens for the 2024-25 season, something that only José Théodore, Carey Price (5 straight), and Guy Lafleur (6 straight) have done.

With that empty net goal, Brendan Gallagher scored his 236th goal as a Montreal Canadien, passing Toe Blake to become the 16th highest scorer of all-time.

Next up, Bob Gainey's 239 goals.

With that goal, Brendan Gallagher ties the great Toe Blake with 235 goals all-time with the Montreal Canadiens. Tied for 16th best in franchise history.

Next up is Bob Gainey with 239.
