In theory only non-approved translations were banned after 1400. And in other countries (e.g. Germany) there were approved translations from the Vulgate which made into print before the Reformation got going. But for whatever reason that didn't happen in England in the relevant time period

In addition, all English personal names can be pronounced as French and vice versa. (Other names treated at random). This ensures that _all_ names are mispronounced, therefore achieving equal treatment of all finalists.
