We had a volunteer butternut squash pop up in our backyard so we decided to just let it go and now it's trying to evict us.
Also pictured: volunteer amaranth and a native serviceberry struggling to hang on in the middle.

Saw a deer with an ear tag and a very large radio collar at Fort Totten Metro station. I see deer there regularly, but I've never noticed one with any kind of tag before. Also not sure why that collar is so huge, wonder if it's recording data locally.

100/10 can't recommend enough. I loved A Visit From the Goon Squad, and assumed this could not possibly live up to that. I was wrong. I seriously don't have the words to properly praise this book and @egangoonsquad.bsky.social, now 100% cemented in place as my all time favorite.
