‘The Giver’ This was a lightbulb moment in my learning 📸 I remember stopping for ages and really seeing something that stirred emotion in me. This almost bare little Japanese Anemone held power. Seeking emotion is a never ending pursuit now. So is this a giver or in fact a taker? What do you see?

Something soothing on a rough day...

It is at the base of icebergs where the magic happens. The deep blues of a small iceberg reflect in wondrous pastel tones off the gently undulating waters of Greenland's magnificent Scoresby Sund.

This is “Oxide Riot” - oxides leaching through the walls of a slate quarry in the Highlands. It’s done well in competitions. I mix vistas, with intimate close ups of the land, maximising my trips.

“Oxide Riot” has done well for me, even getting 2nd place in the 2019 Scottish Landscape Photography Awards. It displayed with the SNPA’s travelling exhibition and, as a square crop taking centre place in my display at the Lime Tree Gallery as part of an exhibition with the Society of Scottish Landscape Photographers. It’s one of my personal favourite images - a 45 cm square crop on matt paper hangs on my wall as a reminder to look at what’s close up as well as the wider landscape. My photography time is precious, so when I go out I rarely take the shot I came for and then go back home. Instead I shoot from dusk till dawn often even forgetting to eat, photographing everything that catches my eye, from vistas to studies, to close ups. As a result I come home with a variety of images and invariably one or two that I could never have foreseen. If you look long and closely enough, there is beauty in everything around us - outdoor and landscape photography gives me the opportunity to remember that and take great pleasure in my time in nature.
