The 50+ age group has the lowest 'baseline' outcomes compared to other age groups: these are people who were eligible for a SWAP but didn't participate in one.
But participating in a SWAP has the highest additional impact for the 50+ age group (+ 15 ppts).

Interesting ONS analysis - people who completed NHS Talking Therapies were more likely to be a paid employee from two to seven years afterwards. Employment Advisers embedded in Talking Therapies not mentioned, but seems likely they contributed to this positive effect. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...

The UK is at risk of a lost decade in the labour market.
The period of steady growth in the employment rate during the 2010s has decisively come to an end. The OBR's new forecast suggests that the 16+ employment rate will be lower in 2030 than it was in 2019.

Public Service Trusts would take on legal and commissioning powers for demand-led high needs services to reflect that these are national priorities.

Local government finances in England are in crisis.
Seven councils have declared effective bankruptcy since 2018.
Due to rising demand for spending on social care, there could be an £11 billion funding gap by 2029-30.

Yes - there's this helpful chart on 'reasons for leaving last job' among people not working aged 50-64. Retirement, health, caring responsibilities all important reasons (and of course inter-related - 'retirement' covers multiple different factors for leaving work).

Interesting chart in DWP release on labour market status of people aged 50+.
- First significant fall in employment is at age 55. LFS data not necessarily reliable - but is this the effect of age 55 'pension freedoms'?
- Less than half (40%) of people are in employment the year before SPA.

New DWP data on Work and Health Programme Pioneer - new employment support programme mainly for people with a disability or health condition.
Age breakdown shows that starts on the programme are lower among people in their 50s and 60s. Suggests improvement needed on referrals for these age groups.

But it is possible to improve the current situation: the government achieved this during the 2000s, as this chart shows.
The big difference obviously is that this was achieved in a pre-2008 era when the UK's economy and public finances were in a much stronger position.

This is an example of how local authority spending is increasingly getting sucked into 'acute' or 'late intervention spending', like children's social care.
