Walking, writing and the outdoors
It might look like we’re at bible class, but in fact we’re celebrating the 60th anniv of the #Pennineway by reading from our books to a packed audience as part of the Todmorden Book Festival. Great to share a platform with @anitasethi.bsky.social @andrewbibby-writer.bsky.social & chair Pam Warhurst.

The Pennine Way is 60 years old & we celebrated this iconic & ground-breaking trail at a special event in the Yorkshire Dales today - in words, music & art. Still an inspiration after all these years! @yorkshiredales.org.uk @nationaltrailsuk.bsky.social @ramblers.org.uk @campaignerkate.bsky.social

Yes I’d heard about the competition from Wales. I have to say, where I live in the Peak District we have much steeper roads than Harlech or Dunedin (pictured)! Maybe its about the length or type, ie urban?

#FingerPostFriday from Dunedin, New Zealand (it’s not as steep as you might imagine, btw!).

Apparently they like flopping out on warm tarmac (and who doesn’t?). It makes you a bit more alert as a driver, though.

If you thought the Highland midge was bad then try the Milford Track sandfly. Irritating, persistent & everywhere, the two must be related! @christownsend.bsky.social @dannyoutdoors.bsky.social

There are some seriously good bike trails on New Zealand’s South Island, imaginative & well promoted and making a significant economic impact, such as here on the 55km Lake Dunstan Trail. Just don’t fall off half way round and break your elbow. 😢 centralotagonz.com/tracks-and-t...
