On the debit side, I very quickly lost breeding Spotted Flycatcher (2-3 pairs) and Turtle Dove (1-2 pairs) in my garden/gardens nearby since 2001/2 😢

Yep - I sympathise Nige. Mine even settled a couple of times but just couldn't see it before it saw me and was off. Also a bit flummoxed by the amber-tinted wings until reading the literature ".......broad hind-wings variably suffused with yellow".

Reading Waring & Townsend, wasn't aware White-speck is an American species which has colonised the Western Palearctic. I then fell down a rabbit hole looking for other 'leps' that have done likewise.....

Tick the taxa John - White Wag, Blue-headed Wag, Siberian Chiffs, Redpolls, etc etc etc - makes birding life so much more interesting 😀
