The parallels to housing subprime are clear, but with a twist. The value of many of the assets is based on repayments from a predominantly immigrant worker market, but ICE action has disrupted such communities, as an earlier FT report (15.9.25 below) pointed out, so undermining the payment base.

Interesting that @pjtheeconomist.bsky.social argues that financial market concerns that a populist party might win the next UK election helps explain the interest rate premium attached to UK debt. Might this see PR being mobilised as a necessary step to remove a punishing burden on growth?

@jonawils.bsky.social may be a great football historian, but he’s got his arithmetic wrong here. John White was 21 when moved to Falkirk: he wouldn’t have been 25 until 1962, after he’d won the double with Spurs.

I just got pulled over at LHW security as my hand baggage was flagged by the scanner. Staff were puzzled as it was just a book, but did crack a smile when I suggested the scanner was merely performing to the book’s title @dsquareddigest.bsky.social

Can’t get the staff: someone at Match of Day yesterday thought that David Moyes still manages West Ham. Despite him featuring earlier in the programme being interviewed as manager of Everton.

Disappointing, but not a great surprise. Ramsey effectively setting requirements for him to carry on. But won’t happen as club is owned and run by people uninterested in football or any investment beyond keeping club solvent. But to what end? It’s a declining asset.

My wife’s patience has finally worn thin for this kind of thing. In Liverpool last month our hotel was near Parr Street Studios, where I’d interviewed the owner in ~2005. My suggestion we check out the site, which was being redeveloped, didn’t go down well. I bargained up to ‘one photo & done’.

First away win of the season! Just need to stop losing at home now. Still in the relegation zone, but a bit of hope.

My wife has subsequently developed a bit of a crush on Horace Andy (73), later dropping the news that apparently he has 30 children by 17 women, which at least shows he must have a certain roguish charm. But surely, that rate of reproduction must conflict with the aims of Act 1.5? 🤔3/6

Excellent performances all round, and the statistics about the extremes of the war that raged in Gaza, that played in the background during Safe from Harm, were particularly effecting and moving. As were Curtis' distinctive and disturbing film collages. 2/6

Ticked off another gig on the bucket-list. After 30+ years, finally saw Massive Attack live, as part of the Act 1.5 Climate Action Accelerator weekend. Guests included Horace Andy, Elizabeth Fraser, Young Fathers & Deborah Miller. Graphics and images by Adam Curtis. 1/6
