A few insider types have suggested he had a stronger influence on those more pass-heavy UVA offenses as QB coach. Who knows, maybe the Urban spread is a Whitt directive (not that that would help Michigan much haha)

Feel like maybe that’s over indexing a couple Dampier offenses (also don’t think we should read much of anything into the last Dino Babers season) but idrk

Biggest issue seems to be pitching Bryce before the transfer window opens. Beck not coming + Bryce leaving because there’s no OC is pretty much a disaster.

Had a thought after the Sherrone fiasco that maybe Michigan needed a Lloyd type for 5 years or so. Think maybe the key stakeholders felt similarly since they were seemingly lukewarm on Dillingham and the Schumann/Haynes coordinators never sounded like real options.

All about the staff IMO, especially the OC. Recruiting is largely NIL-driven these days and he is probably more organized than Jim was. Not inspiring but could work.

I liked Dillingham’s potential ceiling but it has never felt right for Michigan to sign a coach in his 30s right now. Really need a more veteran presence. Maybe Whittingham is it but I would be pretty surprised if that’s what they do.

Still fairly confident they end up with a solid to good coach. Deboer was clearly the best option but Dillingham/Lea/Fisch/Brohm all seem about the same level to me. With the resources UM seems to have a simply organized coach should have them in the playoff most years.

worth considering he was the first Lanning (a defensive guy) OC and had Oregon up to #6 after an exactly *fine* year under Moorhead in ‘21. Also was the primary recruiter of Dante Moore, who flipped to UCLA after KD left. Recruiting juice is prob real and seems he has upside there even on Sherrone

I took the exit ramp during the Washington game and only watched sporadically since. Turned today’s game on in the fourth quarter. A great decision!
