Seconding Octopus. Not perfect, but a damn sight better than everyone else.

Yes, I have. They are opposing a green proposal in Greenwich because it doesn't benefit traffic everywhere, which is absurd. Why block this rather than campaigning for a Charlton LTN?
October 11, 2025 at 12:23 PM
The Greens are just anti-establishment contrarians, aren't they? This is like when they opposed the pedestrianisation of Deptford High Street recently. It's incoherent nonsense and totally at odds with what being "green" should be

The fact this stuff is being presented in the media like it's simply an expensive administrative challenge is beyond disturbing.

Yeah, I'd love to own an e-bike, but I'd be so scared of leaving it parked literally anywhere. I worry enough about my conventional bike, and it's only worth a few hundred.

Good. We need another mass cyclist trespass of this ridiculous car tunnel.

Imagine going through all this effort and being so sanctimonious just to avoid admitting you might have made a mistake (and paying £35). He's making it out like he's the last bastion of reason in a crazy, uncaring world. It's just a bloody parking ticket mate.

The tone of that article seems really quite anti-cyclist. They even chose to use a video (gif?) of a load of cyclists jumping a red at the top, but then go on to say "on the day we visit there are more law-abiding cyclists than those running red lights". Pretty poor from the Guardian.

They've been using this as an events space for years and it's a really great venue. Interesting that it's being marketed to a single wealthy person/family. I assume this means the events will stop :/

This article's logic is... wild.

1) London was economically booming in the early 2000s
2) White British people will be a minority in the future
3) London is now very expensive to live in
4) There are lots of illegal immigrants
5) London is increasingly left wing

None of this follows. At all.

That's the dream, isn't it?
June 18, 2025 at 8:40 AM
Unless you're talking about cycle lanes? Because I'm also very much in favour of that.
June 18, 2025 at 8:11 AM
Ha, I like the idea of there being fast and slow walking lanes. I could get behind that
June 18, 2025 at 8:10 AM
Sorry, are you dismissing my point as I've not got my full name on my account?

Tell you what, I'll put my full name on. Better?

So we shouldn't pedestrianise roads due to the risk that people protesting on them might be attacked? Seems like a very minor edge case that will only be an issue intermittently.

What about the (far higher) risk posed to ordinary pedestrians by regular motor traffic every single day?
June 17, 2025 at 7:42 AM
Fantastic work! Really hope we see something similar in the future at any of the gyratories in inner SE London e.g. the Amersham gyratory in New Cross or the Surrey Quays gyratory (still a mess despite the cycle lane). Gyratories are not fit for purpose in the modern era

"Congestion is bad and I want there to be fewer cars on the road, but I'm against literally anything that would make driving even a little bit less convenient"
June 10, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Hyperbole aside, this is a campaign I can actually get behind. Drive thru fast food is a plague. I kind of wish there was national level legislation to stop new ones opening.
June 9, 2025 at 9:03 AM
This is exactly the same argument used by a campaign group (including the local Green Party candidate) against the pedestrianisation of Deptford High Street. It's really worrying me that apparently progressive and educated people have done a 180 and are pushing back against this stuff now

NIMBYs are a plague. These people are the absolute worst.

I really don't understand why people are so aghast at buildings of this height. For one, they're all over London already. This is far from an unusual sight. Also, it's just a building. It's not going to harm anyone. It's just more homes, yet people act like it'll destroy the neighbourhood.
May 22, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Shame, as the Donkey Republic hire bikes in Copenhagen also have to be parked in bays, but the bays are so prevalent that you never need to worry about finding one. We really need to replicate this here
May 21, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Not surprising, sadly. Parking bays for Lime bikes sound great on paper, but councils have to convince people to give up parking or pavement spaces for them, and the push back is predictable. So the compromise is not enough parking bays and a much worse experience
