/6 Then in 2008, The Police toured again and I finally had my chance to see them. Now, I’ve been spellbound by The Cure in concert. Revelled in the grit of Sloan performing live. But at that Police concert - I was 11 years old again, singing along with my heroes. So happy, I wanted to hug them.

/5 But I never saw them live, not at their height. I missed all the Police picnics, never asked Mom and Dad for the $ to go. Eventually, I started making my own $ and went to concerts, but too late for The Police. I saw Sting in concert many times - so close, but not the same.

/4 Over the (many) years I’ve rejected pop, obsessed over goth, connected with grunge, swooned over drum & bass and electronic, but always, sometimes secretly, I kept a flame going for The Police.

/2 I would throw my arms around all three of them - Andy, Stewart, Sting - squeeze them playfully, chuckle and say into our scrunched mass, “Aww, you guys! I love ya so much!” They would laugh awkwardly and push me away.
