Whilst I’d love to be able to be at every night of Mono (Japan)’s current tour, I can at least relive last year’s orchestral concert production of the Oath album at home now the concert album has arrived. Most definitely my favourite band, such great music and musicians!

Last night I got to see one of my favourite bands, MONO, open their European Tour in Bristol, UK with one of best concerts I’ve been to which closed with my favourite piece of theirs “Com(?)” & the band signed an Ep for me

Do check if they are coming to a place near you www.monoofjapan.com/tour.php

Well that was a revelation! Gregory Alan Isakov and his band at The Beacon in Bristol were amazing, as was the sound - judging by concerts I’ve been to there before and since its refurbishment and renaming, the venue has certainly improved but it’s still dependent on a good band & sound engineer.

Jean-Michel Jarre’s live album from his London Docklands concert played in my music shuffle this evening bringing back memories of being there. I looked up the date, it was in 1988.

I feel old…

I was listening to Michael Palin’s (1979) diaries earlier and hear him say he was picked up by a jaguar and Terry Gilliam wrote a synopsis on the toilet.

My first thought was not of cars or a deposal device… cue ChatGPT’s imagination of my imagination.

Tonight’s listening pleasure: the reformed The Beta Band, live at the O2 Academy in Bristol, and a masked DJ who would I would be surprised to find out is Steve Mason or another member of The Beta Band.

Tonight’s album: Mogwai’s As The Love Continues - an excellent addition to their discography that includes their trademark range of sonic intensities and their finest sung song to date (Richie Sacramento).

Tonight’s bedtime listening: Underworld’s dubnobasswithmyheadman.

I’d like to go and listen to Mono’s beautiful soundtrack album “My Story, the Buraku Story, but the room my turntable is in has been commandeered for a sleep over.

The fields and skies around me stand in solidarity with Ukraine, the poppies praying silently for the fallen and those waiting to be gathered into a lasting peace.

I saw Hothouse Flowers last night in Bath and they were just as good as the first time when I saw them get 80,000 people jumping up and down in joy at the Summer XS concert in Wembley Stadium in 1991. They’re still on tour, including heading to Glastonbury, and well worth checking out. Top band.

Beware of Duolingo’s promise to warn you before charging you if you sign up for a free trial - they often don’t.

In the UK at least there’s a 14 day withdrawal period law for online purchases so there’s a route to a refund if timing gets the better of you & you miss the chargeable moment/deadline

I think we often underestimate the importance of sowing seeds of faith, or the unlikely things that play an important role.

1 of the key seeds in my journey to becoming a Christian was a character in the Beano comic inspired by and named after Jonah from the Bible possibly not their intention!

Great first gig from #SeeingRed and a brilliant debut single #ColourBlind to close it off with, looking forward to coming out soon.

At the end of a day full of unexpected moments and challenges, I stepped out into the sunshine, pressed random and The Cure’s Just Like Heaven began playing… all round bliss and blessings.

Peter Gabriel’s song “Signal to Noise” is a song for the moment - a song about finding truth and connection amidst the chaos and confusion being spread by others.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn’s vocalisations add to the haunting power of the song.

It’s important, amidst the global chaos & concern, to find a happy place to find peace & pray - my such place is music, particularly Mono, a Japanese Post-rock band producing music of ethereal beauty.

If you’ve not heard their music their album Hymn to the Immortal Wind is the ideal place to begin

It’s always a risk hanging out in a record shop to pass the time, but to be fair, this audiophile version of this classic and excellent soundscape by Peter Gabriel was significantly cheaper than usual!
