We have a similar creature at home (the nannerduck, not the dog). My wife and daughter named her "Nana Peels," and have created an elaborate narrative around her clandestine surveillance of our family.

It's a little outside of your proposed 5 year window, but The Ritual (2017) might fit the bill. One of my all-time favorite creature designs.
