That's a specific breed for a specific purpose. No laying chicken looks like that. That breed can't live long enough to lay an egg. The graphic is trying to make a generalization about all chickens that isn't true.

Here's a heritage turkey vs a commercial turkey. We've raised both and heritage is much better tasting and an easier animal to keep healthy.

You want to find a farmer near you that raises those if you can. Same with turkeys. The ones in grocery stores are bred to maximize feed conversion to meat, not health of the animal. Look for heritage breed turkeys raised locally when you can.

The breed in the picture is used only for commercial meat production. As someone raising poultry on a small family farm, we only raise this breed for educational purposes once a year. We stick to other more natural breeds for our other meat.

The Burg was the best! It came out the summer I interned in New York. Whenever I see it mentioned it's a great trip to nostalgia land as I rewatch.
