From 2019:

"Christian nationalism is the strongest predictor of holding a more traditionalist gender ideology, even after taking into account a host of political and religious characteristics."

Posting this, cause, well...you know.

I think I just experienced the most engaging and theoretically impressive presidential address in my career from @ruthbraunstein.bsky.social at the annual meeting for the @sssreligion.bsky.social.

Legit masterful. Wish y'all could have experienced it.

For instance, the effect of Christian nationalism on ableism is not as strong among older Americans than younger.

See how the green bar is flatter? This means that as older people increase along the x-axis (Christian nationalism), the increase along the y-axis (ableism) is not as strong.

Using a national, random sample, I find Christian nationalism is one of the strongest predictors of ableism.

Ableism is stereotyping & discriminating against people with disabilities by assigning value to their intellectual & physical abilities, preferring nondisabled traits or characteristics.

NEW RESEARCH

Americans who embrace Christian nationalism more likely to agree situation f/ people with disabilities is good as it is, disabled people demand too much from rest of society, & there have been enough societal efforts in favor of people w/ disabilities.

A substantial minority of Americans―white biblical literalists in particular―favor unjust punishment to erroneously acquitting the guilty because they often have racial minorities in mind when queried about the criminal justice system.

Working through @prri.org's new American Values Survey report and this one is striking.

Who trusts Trump's handling of the Epstein files?

Basically anyone who trusts far-right news or Fox News.

The silo-ing of Americans into particular information bubbles is such a powerful force.

In the 2022 General Social Survey 87% of American adults agree with the statement, "Even if it brings no immediate benefits, scientific research that advances the frontiers of knowledge is necessary and should be supported by the federal government."

Still chuckling thinking about the folks who said Christian nationalism—the desire to see a specific expression of Christianity privileged with the gov’t promoting it—isn’t real.

I’m not on Twitter, but this is an official gov’t account.

"Appreciation for the nation and people we were born into is not Christian nationalism by default. That said, these services sometimes veer into exalting the United States over and above every other nation and people."

New @prripoll.bsky.social poll report published today, majorities of all religious traditions--including white evangelical Protestants--oppose “the establishment of a federal task force that focuses exclusively on discrimination against Christians rather than discrimination against all religions.”
