My question : is there a simple, free app that will yield a reasonably accurate altitude of the moon (and stars, eventually) ; a protractor method is fine too. My magnetic compass doesn't have a clinometer, but I'll switch it out if the feature seems helpful.

I have a question : I'm watching the Great Course titled 'Our Night Sky' on Kanopy this week. In episode 4 the prof says to observe the moon for a month – two weeks at 10PM, followed by two weeks at 6AM. I'm doing this now while I take care of an elderly dog.
