Moreover, Szobo drops deep to drag Diouf, creating a space for Wirtz to exploit.

Arne Slot's side had two ideas for that
1. Wirtz moves wide on the left to get Bowen on a 2 v 1 as Magassa can't follow him evacuating the centre.

In the 2nd half, West Ham tried to adapt by switching to a 4-5-1.
1. Potts leaves Szobo & presses Ryan.
2. Diouf is now responsible for Szobo.
3. Magasa is still marking Wirtz.
4. Wilson is only focused on pressing the CB with the ball.
That limited their attacking transition.

Typically, the same idea.

Description in order:
1. Magassa is marking Wirtz, who dropped deep
2. Wirtz then drags him high towards AWB, evacuating a space for Gakpo
3. Gakpo receives freely & in a 2 v 1 with Kerkez against Bowen
4. AWB tried to compensate by pressing Kerkez, which left space for Wirtz.

As shown here, Wirtz dragged Magassa wide, Wilson couldn't balance between closing the backward pass to Virgil & marking Gravenberch.
Therefore, the Dutch receive freely & pass to Gakpo, aided by Isak pinning both centre-backs.

West Ham had more of a 4-3-3 mid-to-low block.
Their main issue was that Wilson should track back Ryan, the same with Bowen against Kerkez.
So Gravenberch used to receive & advance freely without pressure, aided by Wirtz's smart off-ball movements.
