Exactly! Evidence is too poor on that matter. Probably research on this new outbreak will shed more light on differences in mortality between clades.

However looking at demographic data, it was shown that in cladeIb outbreaks children were the most affected. The severity of mpox is much greater in paediatric patients than adults, therefore age alone might be responsible for the differences in mortality.

Yes. Reason why is thought clade IB is more sever is based on some systematic reviews (eg: Burge et al 2022) which measured mortality % in outbreaks caused by different clades. Conclusion is that clade Ib caused more deaths.
