Meh.. How about leaving SSNs alone and coming up with an actual state of the art authentication mechanism instead?

In what world has knowledge of a static nine-digit non-random number ever been a good authentication mechanism? SSNs were never intended to be used as such and it shows...

We should just do what we can to support EUVD (euvd.enisa.europa.eu)

If companies and governments got behind it, the transition can be rapid and smooth.

Don't enforce privacy or copyright regulation via making public posts unscrapable, but by scrutinizing and fining people doing the scraping and processing of data in an irresponsible or unethical manner. And raise awarenes that posting stuff publicly should be done responsibly in the first place.

Note the 'public' part. As in 'accessible without restrictions'. If we talk about posts restricted to specific groups that's a whole different story. Also noone's exempt from privacy rules, but awareness that you can't control who uses information once it's posted publicly in reality is important.

Honestly, I'd rather a platform hosting unrestricted public information keep an open API and open access to posts, which will always come with people scraping the data for some purpose, than a corporation gatekeep access and sell user data to some rich AI or advertisement company in a backhand deal.
