A pair of cardinals mate-feeding in two separate frames. Top frame: female cardinal angles upward showing her olive grey belly and charcoal throat to the camera. We can only see a bit of his red head, his eye, his black mask, and red beak passing a bug or seed into the open orange beak of his mate. She is facing the camera head at a tilt, giving us a full view of the left side of her head with its charcoal mask and front view of her olive grey body. Above her eye is a tiny flash of pink/red. Her belly reflects the reddish orange hue of the feeder she is standing on. She has him wrapped around her finger and she knows it.

european starling sits perched atop a shepherds pole in my garden. sleek yellow beak gradates to charcoal and meets inky black head. metallic purple feathers adorn neck and give way to black and shimmering turquoise back spotted with white polka dots like a reflection of stars on an impossibly clear night. wing feathers are decorated with metallic midnight blue and black with thin white outline. these birds were dipped in heaven. bonus treat: they make r2d2 sounds all day long. may the 4th be with you.
