As a Canadian, I have been watching a lot of her YouTube videos about the day's events.
I don't fully understand the U.S. political system so she is amazing at teaching it, and weaves in incredibly useful explanations with an historical context.

It's a very good point. Yes we were still British subjects (I believe) but Canada becoming independent was a slow process.
I just feel that in a modern discussion we need to pretend they were separate countries otherwise they get forgotten.

Many other countries are hardly ever mentioned (New Z, Aus, India, etc.. particularly my own, Canada.
(But always a thank you to the Netherlands for remembering my Grandfather's efforts. Love you guys.)

In 2020, I watched from Canada (Vancouver) as Portland took on Trump's unmarked goons. Portland became my most admired city.

Agreed! We aren't as powerful but there are things we can definitely help our American friends with.

Im not sure what the correct equivalent is, but Consider 1930's Austria or Poland. If the U.S. falls to fascism, Canada will 100% be next to target. Let's get ahead of it.

I would be excited by joining Europe, that sounds awesome, except I would also miss the special relationship with our American friends. I won't give up on them yet. 50% of the U.S. are now beginning a fight for their freedom. It will get worse before it gets better.
