Background for non-violin people: the priciest violin sold at public auction, the ‘Lady Blunt’ Strad, was auctioned off by Tarisio in 2011. It sold for $15.9 mil. Sotheby’s just auctioned off the ‘Joachim-Ma’ Strad this morning, with talk it might set a new world record. It only went for $11.25 mil.
