This is Vi. She likes treats and sleeping on shoes.
This is Gizmo. He likes attention and sleeping in silly poses.

Largely for @hoojiwana.bsky.social - finally got around to finishing up the tracked part of my tracked impulsor. I ended up going into FreeCad and modeling my own wheels that were less fiddly to place, and using a set of track files I had.

It works remarkably well for something designed to hover!

I also got some pictures of an Eastern Towhee - second time I've managed it. And got a real gem of a picture.

Actually went out and did Bird Things yesterday. Despite the gloomy weather, I managed to add two more birds to my life list, bringing me up to 115: The Brown Thrasher, and the much less easily pronounced Prothonotary Warbler.

I made @tastinghistory.bsky.social's historic beef stroganoff. It was very good.

The mustard I got ended up strongarming the other flavors a bit, so next time I'll dial that back a bit, but otherwise? Very good. A little too salty on the fries, but that's a fry problem, not a stroganoff problem.

Hello darkness my old friend
December 5, 2024 at 3:00 PM
There were plenty of cormorants waiting for us near the docks, including these two, sitting on a log sticking out of the water.

On the boat back, the same gentleman pointed up - There was a Northern Harrier soaring overhead. I got some neat pictures of it in the clouds.

One of the guys - An older gentleman with two very, very good bird eyes (He spotted so many things), spotted some ibises way far away. This was where I really was sad my lens wasn't up to that range, because these pictures are really crypid pictures.

Across one of the bits of water, we saw a racoon making their way along the beach.

A personal one I took a bunch of pictures of was this song sparrow taking a bath. A happy little borb.

Someone also reported a swamp sparrow among the other sparrows, but sadly I didn't manage to get a picture of it.

Another highlight was a late warbler - An Orange-Crowned Warbler. Everyone quickly abandoned all of the waterbird watching for this little friend.

We watched a pair of peregrine falcons harassing a bunch of American avocets. That was fun. It was far enough away I couldn't get good good pictures, but I got some.

These are some birb pictures from the trip. It'll be a thread! Roughly in order of how I took them.

Pictures are my favorite pictures. There's a lot that were just. IDable maybe-cryptids, and those aren't fun.

I got my cats Vi (Black) and Gizmo (White/Tabby) almost two years ago. Vi was a surrender and Gizmo a former feral.

Vi now loves shoes (And will sleep on them), and Gizmo loves attention but is terrified of new people.

And if you got this far, here's bonus bonus content: Captain Trash Wheel!

Bonus content: A buckeye butterfly and a bush full of monarchs. There are at least twelve that I counted!

We have a Yellow-Rumped Warbler and some pictures of a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron juvenile. I was told where this bird was, and in turn I was able to show where it was to another person. It was great.

Next we have one of a multitude of Eastern Mockingbirds, a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker (My first sapsucker!), the butt end of a bald eagle that flew overhead, and a Great Blue Heron.

There were many mockingbirds around, and I'm pretty sure one was imitating a bald eagle. Sounded close, but off.

Late, but some of the pictures from last week! (A thread)

First up, a ruby-crowned kinglet that was helpfully IDed by others, a judgemental Yellow-rumped warbler, a white-throated sparrow, and a double-crested cormorant.
