Nw: CONVOY, directed by Sam Peckinpah.

...And I just barely caught this detail, but Madge Sinclair is literally wearing a shirt with Peckinpah's face on it...

Watching Aki Kaurismaki's JUHA (1999). Below is one of the most ridiculously "art house" images I've ever seen in my life.

But because it's Kaurismaki, and because it's Kati Outinen, you 100% go with it.

This is the first of QT's movies where he's actively *writing with the camera*. Not just crafting great scenes, but whole sequences.

Like during the dressing room exchange, when we follow Melanie and Louis, the camera catches a brief glimpse of Max - and it's such a De Palma move.

Revisiting JACKIE BROWN tonight. Top-tier Tarantino, for sure.

And maybe it's because I've been watching a ton of De Palma lately, but you can really feel his influence on the film.

Nw: THE WEDDING PARTY
dir. Brian De Palma

Five minutes in and this film is already so inventive and cheekily funny. Throwing a ton at the wall. Very reminiscent of Richard Lester's early style (A HARD DAYS NIGHT, THE KNACK). I mean, just look at these credits...

Watching Aki Kaurismaki's THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST, and I love this little tribute to Matti Pollenpaa, who was a mainstay of the director's films up until his death in 1995.

Quite sad about the passing of David Lynch, but also moved by the legacy he leaves behind. The visions only Lynch could dream up, and shared with us...

Second time. Had to see it in 70. Even if that meant traveling three hours to do it.

Put me in the minority who prefers the remake over the original. There's just nothing that compares to a Demme protagonist staring down the barrel of the lens - a technique that works especially well in a film all about paranoia.
