We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

usually I am a ‘need for speed’ type of researcher , but I was also a heavy proponent of manual analysis

the work is excruciating, tedious, etc… but the outcome is extraordinary.

the trend of researchers offloading qualitative research to AI is freaking me out (beyond the automation bias)

You know, in your heart, that they never intended for this Figma-Frontpage thing to be used by real people to make actual websites. The point was to create a new bucket they could fill with "AI" chum in order to attract dead-eyed, jinglekey-distracted millionaires with more money than forethought.
