A fantastic cross section of an Athenian Trireme, aprox 450BC. I'm always struck by how vibrant the paint must have looked against the turquoise of the Mediterranean sea. The classical world was clearly wonderfully colourful. #maritimehistory #history

Cross section of the Hōkūleʻa, launched in 1975. This double hulled canoe sailed from Hawaii to Tahiti using only ancient Polynesian navigation methods.
