Best I can offer is 1987 Bsc (Hons) (CompSci, UNISA). My hair was short by then. But I have two sisters with PhD's. Beat that!

Damn! I also graduated in 1979 from UCT! Engineering. Hair longer than yours.

I was in city centre today. Scorching (35+) and no wind. Scotch with lots of ice. Deep Purple.

Also not a Pournelle fan. On his own he was boring. The Mote in God's eye was one my favs tho. Never read Donaldson, just didn't appeal to me.

In my youth we had English family friends (still do) who had every Giles book ever. It was an excellent precis of recent English history revealed with that lovely offbeat English humour.

Ah, Enid Blyton. How about The Beano (with the Bash Street Kids) and Roy of the Rovers?

Yes its true. Solder SMD components with lead free solder paste and it grows whiskers. Just about made me give up electronics as a hobby.

Nice. Winter is nice there except for the odd cold snap if you unlucky (was briefly -12C last time I was in Kgalagadi). Fortuner an excellent car for this kind of trip.

Seems to be a trend with new medicines here, and perhaps in much of the global south. We never got any of the updated C19 vaccines and things like the shingles vaccine are unobtanium. Even the old fashioned flu vax was hard to get this year.
