Outside of a decadant hegemon, looking in.
Yep, I'm aware, and I'm very much focused on it. And if/when it happens here, I'll accept my share of the responsibility for it, instead of pointing my fingers everywhere but at Canada.

And that's all I'm asking of Americans. For them to own up to what they've let happen.

Stop me if I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but yeah, I think the citizens of democracies bear responsibility for what their legally elected governments!

Canada can't quit fossil fuels & is systematically racist to Indigenous people. That's on me!

And every crime the US commits is on you.
January 24, 2026 at 9:59 PM
If you want to tell me that Canada needs to own up a while lot better than it has about the history of residential schools, you know what I'm going to say? You're 100% right! It's a national disgrace! I can hear that & agree with it!

What stops Americans from being able to hear criticism like that?
January 24, 2026 at 9:41 PM
Honestly, this is how I know we are well and truly cooked. *Even the US left* can't imagine taking responsibility for their own country's crimes. They can't let the thought bother their beuatiful minds!
January 24, 2026 at 9:38 PM
I don't understand what you're suggesting. That the defence alliance Canada is a junior partner in, and that until recently the US led, should invade the US to keep the peace? Is that the idea?
January 24, 2026 at 9:34 PM
Folks, seriously. Listen to yourselves. Are you *really* saying that Americans don't bear the responsibility here? That they don't bear way, way more responsibility than anyone else?
January 24, 2026 at 9:30 PM
Ha. Thanks! I'm terrible at spelling!
January 24, 2026 at 9:28 PM
1. Sorry for misgendering. (Really. That's my bad.)

2. I take 100% take your point about voter suppression.

3. But also: voting is just one way for citizens of a democracy to influence their government. Every adult in a democracy bears some responsibility.
January 24, 2026 at 8:39 PM
I'm glad to hear it.
January 24, 2026 at 8:37 PM
Literally anytime on social media anyone suggests individual Americans bear responsibility for what their own country is doing, Americans whine about that. I mean, more than whining, they just *deny* it.

It's exhausting.
January 24, 2026 at 8:37 PM
I've marched in the street to protest genocide. Recently, even. But I've never had to deal with citizens of countries committing the genocides whining that I'm not *helping them stop committing genocide.*
January 24, 2026 at 8:33 PM
It sure will be.
January 24, 2026 at 8:30 PM
My man! Why do you think I'm so riled up about this! A majority of voting citizens in your country voted for a guy who wants to take SK! The Canadian left and centre is doing *nothing but* figuring out how to hold the country together in face your country's tantrums!
January 24, 2026 at 8:29 PM
I have infinite admiration for the tiny, tiny % of the Americans who are actually in the streets.

The other 99% of you are full of shit.
January 24, 2026 at 8:26 PM
Dude. Have you read the news? Do you know your legally elected President is constantly threatening to annex my country, among others? Do you think I'd be this mad if my borders were actually safe?
January 24, 2026 at 8:24 PM
Like I've said, your country is your responsibility before it's anyone else's. You guys are the ones always yammering on about your revolutionary war and the tree of liberty and blah blah blah. Well, time put up or shut up.
January 24, 2026 at 8:23 PM
Do you know what stopped the Nazi's attempt to wipe out every last Jew, Roma, and queer person in Europe? It wasn't strongly-worded letters.
January 24, 2026 at 8:22 PM
This is the thing. And I say this with the utmost respect and admiration for the man who was murdered today.

Americans need to get in front of the guns. En masse. South Koreans did it a year ago, and Iranians are doing it now. But Americans aren't.
January 24, 2026 at 8:21 PM
As far as I can tell, a lot of the relevant institutions with your electoral system were designed to prevent Black people from voting. And the US as a country has just been chugging long with that at least since the Civil Rights era.
January 24, 2026 at 8:19 PM
Are you suggesting that the rest of the world should CONQUER the US, completely destroy its industrial capacity, and kill a significant share of its population in order to stop Trump?

I don't know what that looks like in a world with nukes, but I'm going bet neither one of us would like it!
January 24, 2026 at 8:15 PM
Here's what I'm saying:

Anyone able-bodied in the US could be marching in the street, wherever they are, every single week. They could be doing that week after week after week. If they're not (and almost no American is), they're not really doing as much as they can.
January 24, 2026 at 8:13 PM
Listen to yourself.

And Austrian socialist in 1937: "Hitler keeps talking about annexing my country. I wish Germany would get its shit together."

Germans: "Hey! Stop complaining! HELP US!"

Do you hear how that sounds?
January 24, 2026 at 8:11 PM
I'll be the first agree that Canada has played its role in western imperialism. But, uh, I think the "how did Trump happen?" question has at least something to do with the US's own shitty political institutions.
January 24, 2026 at 8:08 PM
I mean this sincerely. Take a breath. Take a step back and think about what you're saying. You're saying that people who can't vote in the US, have no political representation in the US, and who don't live in the US should start shouldering *more* responsibility for US politics. That is insane.
January 24, 2026 at 8:03 PM
Wait. Did Justin Trudeau elect Donal Trump? Is that what happened? That's not what wikiepdia says.
