A Māori/Pākehā vegan anarchist in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Find me on Mastodon + the Fediverse: @anarchistreadinglist@kolektiva.social

At this stage, I'm not doing essay-length reviews. It takes the joy out of reading.
I'm reading both of these...

I'm in Hamilton, having been at my cousin's unveiling. Because I can speak the reo, and I'm used to public speaking, I was asked to lead it. Whenever I'm here, I visit Browsers Bookshop. Sasha LaPointe's memoir was on the table when I first walked in. Serendipitous. I've been waiting for this book.

Took three months to get here but I'm pretty excited to read this! @caw-shinythings.bsky.social

We all know Winnie is a shyster of the highest order. I'm reading the Hansard transcript for his 'Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Deletion Bill', a precursor to Temu Trump (Seymour)'s failed 'Treaty Principles Bill'. Winnie is a liar. His lies are documented. The sooner he retires, the better.

Get out there and support the nurses today, whānau mā. If you see them, give them a hearty toot!

Been reading this and pausing every few pages to look up things that I thought surely couldn't be entirely accurate. But yep, the Cultural Rev was fucked. Got an even lower opinions of Maoists and Marxist-Leninist-Maoists (MLMs) now.

If you're in Palmy and own your home or have your landlord's (blechhh) permission, get a free berm garden!

Maybe if Trump didn't rail against anarchy and all his jingoistic strawmen, maybe the US wouldn't be an absolute shitshow. Curfews in downtown LA with the National Guard occupying downtown? Smells like martial law on the breeze.

Finally got this edition of Berkman's, 'The Bolshevik Myth', published by @activedistribution.bsky.social. The cover of Goldman's book beside it had an incomplete circled-a for much too long on my shelf.

That's what we did yesterday at Parliament. Collectively screaming at that house of snakes.

Visited my fave infoshop today whilst in the capital for the Budget Day rally. The Freedom Shop @bookhavennz.bsky.social is dope. My faves since 1997. Then got home to a stack from @activedistribution.bsky.social, my fave distro, all the way from the UK. Anarchist books are my love language.

Really enjoyed this. Ward has been one of my favourites since reading 'Anarchy in Action' as a youngster. His anarchism is about the everyday lives and activities happening RIGHT NOW that show anarchism is living breathing thriving.

Yes, please.

Good turn out at the Fight Back Together Maranga Ake event here in Palmerston North, New Zealand hosted by Unions Manawatū! The workers united will never be defeated!

Unions Manawatū is holding a Fight Back Together Maranga Ake hui (meeting) in Palmerston North, New Zealand, as part of nationwide hui co-ordinated with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. There'll be at least a few anarchists in attendance!

Listened to 2Pac while cooking and then eating with the whānau tonight. 2Pac has been a part of my life since I was 11 years old, so just over 30 years. It's a really special thing to have it playing while my whānau eats dinner and my kids are older than I was when I first listened to Pac.

NZers should look into Project 2025 because if Chippy stays at the helm of Labour, they'll lose Election 2026 and we'll see more of this from the 3-headed Taniwha...

My doggo also finds it a comfortable book.

Ignoring the stock photograph and font on the cover, this has been a pleasure to read. I hadn't read much of Colin Ward's work prior to this (just 'Anarchy in Action' tbh) but I've ordered about four more books of his whilst reading this collection. A varied, detailed, and joyful collection.

This past week has been a flood of new books. Will I find the time to read any of them?
April 11, 2025 at 10:42 AM
I love books about books and the people who sell them.

Brian Tāmaki's mōkai in Palmerston North counter-protesting the Palestine rally in the Square. Sad to see our people supporting the genocide of other indigenous peoples.
