Bergman’s “Winter Light” reminds me of Dostoevsky’s musings from the Brothers Karamazov. Thomas (the pastor), in some Ivanesque moments of reflection says "Suffering is incomprehenisble, it needs no explanation. There is no creator, no sustainer of life. No design."
