I am not 100% convinced this is a general issue, rather than a me-issue, but anyways, it seems ok now!

Ok #rstats #shiny hive mind.
When rendering geom_tile to a plotly in shiny, and press the download button the resulting .png is missing the tiles? What gives! Any advice gratefully received

it's great because depending on chunk options, etc. you can show students code and output e.g.,

Great to be back home after spending a week in Vanuatu teaching #Rstats to these awesome #fisheries managers, a wonderfully productive workshop. One participant was rendering her analysis written in #Quarto to a PowerPoint presentation that she writes annually for catch data in the outer islands!

Delving in to the world of Beaker St science festival. What is your p(doom)?

Is AI going to save us, enslave us, or just write all our event descriptions?

Even have “the krill” cocktail given my date for the afternoon!

TFW you log in to what looks like a fabulous seminar (Integrated Species Distribution Models: an application to fisheries abundance data, by Quan Vu, ANU) and find out you didn’t get the memo it started an hour earlier due to a room issue 😭

So the Statistical Computing and Visualisation section of the (wonderful) Aust #stats society are running “C study Group for R Contributors” atm. Having never ever ever programmed in C before I felt daunted!! Now I have made a function for Mario and feel overwhelmingly proud at my productive Monday!

On the topic of my PhD, I was interviewed recently about the time Clay DeGayner and I found the first Burmese python in Florida Keys, it had eaten one of the radio collared woodrats we were tracking. Had to dig deep in the memory, it was 18 years ago! (I’m still deeply scared of 🐍!)

I found an old file on my computer from my PhD, my thesis was (broadly) on detectability of woodrats, named “WR detection curse.jpg” and I was *very* amused 🤣

I’ve had the terrible experience of DVT lately, which among other things, has set of a chain reaction of doctors appts and specialists. Here is a pre-visit specialist survey form and it reminds me survey design is a whole profession for a reason #stats

These kinds of catchy statistics leave me with more questions…. Why swap from 2 in 5 to percentages, and what happened to the other 18%? Just find it opaque and a bit pointless. Space filler in the magazine #stats

I love read Friday Barnes to our 11yo daughter we find it hilarious, but does someone need to check on R.A.Sprat? Academic trauma? #PhDlife #AcademicSky 😂

Honestly Microsoft I dunno, when I receive these emails it makes me feel discombobulated:

“If you didn’t request this code, you can safely ignore this email. Someone may have typed your email address by mistake. Thanks, #Microsoft

This was fun, Ben and I went to the University of St Andrew’s Alumni “cocktail party” (generous description) in Perth (WA) tonight. Coincidence we were in town for their annual meet up! It was good fun, and view over Perth sunset was beautiful.

Current status: finishing up workshop material with my favourite beverage (g&t), complete with ice on my ankle after a sprain at basketball. What a way to spend Saturday night!
