It takes archetypal horror characters (vampires, werewolves), makes them ridiculous by taking away their malice (no human blood, etc) and their weaknesses (sunlight, invitation to enter houses), and then makes racist arguments for why one is better than the other—it’s the beige minimalism of fiction

A character loses an eye and next season there’s a throwaway gag about depth perception. There’s so much *detail*

The thing about mad men is that characters act in surprising ways but they’re never out of character. It has musical numbers that come from nowhere but it’s a serious show. It’s a comedy and a drama but it’s never forced or melodramatic
