Canadian. Former lawyer and executive in the federal government. Now retired from both. Opinions are my own.

Popper's Paradox. Brandolini's Law, Russell's Teapot.

Right. And after Canada caves on the jets, what other "or else" will there be?

Time for Canada to look to its own security and its own interests.

Pro-tip for Hoekstra: a drop of oil goes much further than a ton of sand.

Canadians feel betrayed, excluded, disrespected, bullied. And there are no indications this will cease.

One doesn't have to drink the entire ocean before realizing it's salty.

Absolutely, and I agree with the pundits on CBC: if Canada folds on this threat, what's to say there won't be another one? And another.

At some point, we have to see to our own security. And right now, the US is a threat, not a friend.

The F-35 deal is a XXIst century Trojan Horse.

Two words: market failure. Capitalism's bottom line is profit, not patients.

So... the United States' only role in this is in merely acting as a go-between? The Nobel Committee doesn't give medals to messengers.

As a *former* admirer of US democracy (i came to my senses during the Bush years), I am SO impressed by their display of civility and democratic values. Really... /s

And MP Michael Cooper--the one who looks like a lone grape that fell under the sofa--is the tenant in Poilievre's Ottawa residence, with rent paid by the taxpayers, while Poilievre lives high on the hog at Stornoway.

No appreciation for Canada. We should boot him out like the WH screamed at Zelenskyy for not wearing a suit.

Hegseth is to Trump what Renfield was to Dracula.

JD Vance's ego is larger than his brain. Canada's standard of living is higher than that of the United States, per capita GDP notwithstanding. US News ranks Canada #5 in quality of life, and the US ranks #22.

Meddling much? Hoekstra takes his cue from this idiot.

There's probably also a significant correlation between support for Poilievre's brand of politics, and low levels of education or more specifically, lack of political acumen.
November 22, 2025 at 5:57 PM
What Hoekstra must understand is that Canadians feel betrayed by the US under Trump.

And betrayal will keep on happening. There's no need to drink the entire ocean, to realize that it's salty.
