In 1971, the team had to move to Oakland, but the owner had the ill-conceived idea to play home games in San Diego, as well. So he changed the name to the Golden State Warriors to appeal to the entire state. And the logo emphasized this by swapping out the Golden Gate Bridge for California itself.
