The excerpt goes like this: Loren approaches a dusty dresser littered with dead bugs and crushed drink cans. She jerks the top drawer open, half expecting it to be full of spiders. Relief washed over her as all she sees is just T-shirts. She pulls one out but quickly realizes that none of this guy's clothes are going to fit Sebastian. Too oversized. Sebastian was strong, but he's still considerably skinny--- especially compared to what Loren imagined the previous owner of this bedroom looked like.

Yet another very rough draft screenshot lol
Screenshot from my ongoing WIP/draft, Walking with Casualties (WwC). There are brackets, but they aren't crucial to reading, as they are there for me for future reference. The word assumes is highlighted in the text. The paragraph goes like this: The soot-covered bones of the building reach to the sky, arching as if they were stuck in prayer. A cross once sat proudly on its front, she assumes, but now it had been eaten away by fire and rot and what was left sits ruined in the grass. Next to it, yellowed ribs erupt from a dark mass of flesh and distorted limbs. It's no longer a sacred haven it once could have been.

Fairly rough excerpt from my WIP, WwC, lol. don't judge too hard 😭

Content / Trigger warnings for the following: descriptions of gore and blood, and a mild panic attack. The excerpt goes like this: Gray-pinkish bits of brain and bone fragments drop to the floor in small chunks, plopping into the tacky pool of blood it was resting in. Flayed skin peeled away from the head followed by strings of fat and other unknown fluids dripping to the floor. Loren freezes in place, unable to will herself to help him move the body. (in italics) "We've done this before with no issue," she scolds herself, (in italics) "I should be helping him." (end of italics). She takes a deep breath hoping to calm her newly skittish heart. Her hand clench and unclench, the leather gloves creaking in her grip. It looks all too familiar.

Excerpt from my WIP draft, Walking with Casualties (WwC). It's pretty rough, so please ignore the lapses in tense for some of the actions LOL. It goes: A scented candle that Loren found in the bathroom was the only source of light in the otherwise dim master bedroom. She picks at the hem of the shirt she took from the wardrobe. It was longer than she would have liked, but she could always cut it shorter in the morning so it would be at her hip. The room was decently clean, given the condition of the rest of the house. She sits on the floor by the window, her back against the wall and facing the king-sized bed. Their clothes are slung over a wooden chair to dry. The spring wind blows over her warm skin and cools her damp hair. She was zoned in on the smell of candied apples.
