i know it's old news and pretty obvious but yeah that's a big strength of mobile games. I'll keep playing both and hope this update doesn't ruin my life but fuck it it's a fun time to be a fan :)
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
and the other thing is that I'm somehow more excited about this than legend za?? don't get my wrong za is an excellent game, best Pokémon since arceus at least but it demands a lot and I'm an adult. open world games take a lot to get into. i play pocket walking the dog, watching tv, etc

only thing i haven't seen that fans really wanted is combining a certain currency across different sets to let you purchase the cards you want. that still sucks but it's a minor thing and it hadn't gotten worse just not better
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
you had to spend cards to add little flairs to them. so if you wanted a flair you needed multiple copies and thus open more packs. now it doesn't cost you the cards. it's full of little things like that. it's just so... nice? I'm almost suspicious
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
now you can GIFT cards. you can make a second account, open twice as many packs a day and give your main amount the cool cards you got.
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
that's why it impresses me that the latest update is so... generous? like i know this costs them nothing but like. you couldn't trade super rare cards, so if you wanted those you had to open packs and hope. more people wanting more packs, more money. now you can trade it, boom

far from me to defend a fucking billion dollar company or the largest media franchise in the world, but in the current landscape, this is a very good mobile game. has been since launch and has only gotten better. fair, simple and fun
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
tcg pocket doesn't feel scummy. it's clean, uncluttered, not always super fast or responsive but definitely not a sea of screens within screens. i often logged in out of habit only to immediately see there was nothing for me to do so i could just leave
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
I'm no expert on mobile games and literally don't play anything else. i tried acecraft for a while and enjoyed it but it was too overwhelming with all those red dots indicating shit to do all the time, clearly designed to keep you stuck in the app for hours a day. i get it. but it felt scummy
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
the game doesn't even have that many currencies relative to other games and its menus are way easier to navigate and understand what they do than other cof cof acecraft cof games
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
more recently they even changed a pretty annoying mechanic of how trades worked and they did that by *doing away* with one of its currencies! mobile games thrive on having multiple currencies so we're confused and they removed one to make trades easier
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
the game makes you wait to open packs but never to play and there are no ads ever
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
so yeah as a collector it sort of sucks that I didn't get to complete the promo set but i also got hours of fun without any major hindrances for no money at all
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
if i had been a premium member or spent money i might have got more cards and i would have definitely got a handful of promo cards that were only for premium users, but these were just always just alternate art, with no competitive advantage. you could get effectively the same card for free
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
i got all basic non super rare cards in all sets just by opening packs, participating in free events and organizing trades with others online. and out of all the other cards that are even possible to trade, I'm missing SIX out of over a thousand
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
i mean, the game has been pretty good so far in its treatment of players! it's good a pretty basic gacha mechanic that is by nature predatory but you still get to open on average three packs a day without spending a dime
October 30, 2025 at 8:35 AM
looking back on this post after a random like, it doesn't feel physics-wise absolutely perfect and the new emerald based powerups were not very engaging or necessary which i guess is why it didn't get the love it deserved
