PLAIN JANE AND THE MERMAID is so FLIPPING CUTE, and I am obsessed with it. The story is great, so engaging, full of wonderful characters. The art and colors are so good - I truly want to buy art prints of it. I recommend this quick graphic novel for anyone 8/9 and up.

Like many of us, I was thrilled to see HEAVENLY TYRANT show up on my Kindle in December. I ended up listening to the audio, and mostly, this is a great follow-up to Iron Widow. The action and characters and plot are fantastic and engaging.

Don't let the cover for A WICKED KIND OF HUSBAND fool you. This is likely to be my favorite new book read this year. It's a marriage of convenience, with a very competent heroine and a secretly charming hero. It's full of yearning and heartbreak, and I want to read it for the first time again.

THE STARS OF MOUNT QUIXX is a fun YA fantasy. It's pretty queer, the characters are all Real Characters, and the love interest is a giant genderqueer spider. It was lovely and charming, and I really enjoyed listening to the audio.

It took me many months to finish SPLIT OR SWALLOW. It was fine. The sexy parts were the best parts, which is good because they were SO MANY OF THEM. Otherwise, it was too long, and I really hated the resolution of the love triangle.

THERE AROSE SUCH A CLATTER is probably my last holiday read for the season. It's a quick little book that has five interconnected sexy Krampus short stories. I like C.M. Nascosta, and this was a quick read that I could pick up and put down at my leisure.

I finished my regular re-read of THE DARKANGEL, so I am here to yell about how much I love this damn book. It was one I discovered in high school, and it has kept a firm hold on me the ensuing 20 years. It YA fantasy from the 80's, and it's just fantastic. One of my top five favorite books.

I'm still in a holiday reads mood, and I adored THE CHRISTMAS YOU FOUND ME. It's sweet contemporary marriage of convenience story about a newly divorced woman who marries a man to give his sick daughter health insurance. It's sweet and so compelling and a little bit sad.

THE INQUISITOR was my one re-read for 2024's r/Fantasy Book Bingo. It was published in 1992, and I remember seeing it on my library's shelves for a long time before I read it - that cover is so distinctive! It holds up pretty well for a 30+ year old book, and I enjoyed revisiting this old friend.

'TIL ALL THE SEAS RUN DRY is a selkie/vampire second chance fantasy romance in which the couple have been separated for 1,000 years and run into each other again in modern coastal Washington. I loved the characters, the chemistry is scorching, and I would read more in this world.

I'll take it!

If you are interested in a lovely, sweet romantic fantasy about a zookeeper in a magical zoo, may I interest you in THE PHOENIX KEEPER? It's so charming and full of endearing characters and cute animals. My minor nitpick is that the author telegraphed the big reveal a bit too much.

JUST LIKE MAGIC is a sweet, funny, gentle rom-com that my friend described as Alexis Rose & Buddy the Elf falling in love. The heroine starts out so self-absorbed & awful, but there is growth & top notch yearning. The 3rd act conflict was genuinely heartbreaking, making the ending really satisfying.

FILTHY RICH SANTAS has no actual Santas - it is a contemporary why choose, my brother's best friends, road trip holiday book, and the heroine has a chronic illness. At almost 500 pages, it is too long, but as most of that length comes from banging, I will excuse it. It is, indeed, filthy.

TRICK SHOT was my first holiday book for the year, and we started off with a BANG. I was not prepared for how spicy this book was, though I suppose the cover should have been a clue. I enjoyed it IMMENSELY.

THE MIDNIGHT BARGAIN is a charming feminist fantasy in a Victorian-inspired world about a girl who wants to become a sorceress, despite the expectation for women to simply marry and have babies. I loved the characters so much, and I enjoyed their journey to find a different path for themselves.

HOW FAR THE LIGHT REACHES is a book of essays about the author's life and identity, connected to a variety of sea creatures, and I loved it so much. It's so beautifully written, and I appreciated their perspective so much.

THE WORST GUY is an enemies to lovers doctor romance, and I feel like if you have ever enjoyed Grey's Anatomy, you'll probably like this book. When I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about this book, and I loved these dum-dums so much.

RUNNING CLOSE TO THE WIND is the funniest book I've read in a LONG time. The audio had me literally LOLing at work, at one point laughing so hard I was crying. It's all raunchy humor about the most annoying person you know, but Rowland somehow also manages to make him completely endearing.

THE DAUGHTERS OF IZDIHAR is an Egyptian-inspired fantasy about two women who can control different elements (think bending a la The Avatar) and join a radical women's suffrage organization. This feminist story is action-packed and the world-building is richly detailed, but it ends on a cliffhanger

I listened to MICKEY CHAMBERS SHAKES IT UP on audio, even though I don't like listening to sex scenes at work, and it is SO charming and fun. The story is a fluffy and surprisingly spicy grumpy/sunshine romance about a 33 yo woman and her 42 yo widower boss/student

THE AWAKENING is the first book in a trilogy about a woman who discovers she has Fae heritage and is, in fact, that world's Chosen One. Most of the first book is An American Visits Ireland, but the rest of the series is all about her learning her powers and making friends, and it's really delightful

MERMAIDS NEVER DROWN is a collection of YA mermaid stories by a diverse collection of (mostly women) authors. The stories are fun and thought provoking and man of them are queer as hell. I really enjoyed reading these, and I would happily read a full length novel about several.

IN OTHER LANDS was a re-read when I was struggling to connect with everything else I was reading. Brennan is so funny and smart, and I think she really nails what it's like to be a weird, mean teen. I love the way we get to see Elliot grow and learn that he doesn't need to express every thought.

My last finished book for June is the fun queer romance D'VAUGN AND KRIS PLAN A WEDDING. The two women fall in love while on a reality show, and I enjoyed the premise and all the characters. They are surrounded by family and friends who love, accept, and support them. VERY enjoyable!
