Needle felt with me while I work on my largest piece of art since Helene destroyed most of my work.

I’m Amy and I’m a fiber artist based in Asheville, NC. Helene destroyed the majority of my artwork last fall and I’ve been slowly rebuilding since then.

I have been trying to help Monda and her family met their gofundme goal for a while and we are so close. They live in Gaza and need help. If you have anything to give that would be amazing.

Continuing to fill my foragers basket with needle felted mushrooms. Eventually these will all find homes on art pieces, but for now, I’m enjoying the basket storage/display

You’re such a talented artist!
Thank you, it comes from making so much bad art.

Hugo is not allowed in my art studio. I let him in briefly and he looked SO SMUG. He ate some of my wool right after this and I had to kick him out again.

In the most exciting news I’ve had in ages, I PETTED SHEEP TODAY! There were four month old lambs at the Biltmore today and I got to meet them and give them very gentle pats. I love sheep so much this is the highlight of the year so far for sure!

More needle felted mushrooms! I’ve been inspired by the forest floor my whole life, but even more so since moving to western NC. The forest is my sensory safe space and I grew up retreating to be among the trees as much as possible. I hope my work gives you a similar sense of calm and belonging.

I’m batching a bunch of needle felted mushrooms so they are all in their “rough” shape before details are added. Laying them out in a wicker basket was absolutely the right choice. I can’t wait to see them all when they are actually finished!

Found this picture of my last workshop pre-Helene and I’m so looking forward to teaching again, but wow it feels different this time. This was the classroom pre flood at Trackside and my work is hanging in the back corner there. This space took on 6+ feet of water and my work was destroyed.

It’s been 116 days since the hurricane.
I’m making art again.
It’s not the same as it was before the flood, but that’s okay.
I’m finding solace in the rhythmic repetition of felting again.
It’s not full of joy like it was before, but that’s okay.

Oh I kind of did that one time! I made an environment sculpture in the jungle of Peru out of dried sticks and vines! Made it from the materials that were already in the space so it existed and then decomposed back to the earth she-explores.com/spotlight/am...
