I love that Illinois has adopted Permanent Vote By Mail. The Peoria County Election Commission even sends voters who use this system a digital “I voted” sticker. Voting should be this accessible for all citizens.

Confederate monuments were *quite literally* an effort to “perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history” by promoting the Lost Cause work of white supremacists who wanted to rewrite the history of the Civil War and, yes, Reconstruction.
I _think_ this portion of the “restoring history” EO is meant to compel restoration of Confederate monuments. Aside from this being mere guidance, though, I see a snag: how does it “perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history” to remove shrines to people who rebelled against us?

“The Land of Lincoln” is serious about equality.
To anyone living in a state that doesn't respect you for who you love or who you are: Illinois has a place for you.

You are seen, you are celebrated, you are protected, and you are welcome here in our state.

An unswerving assessment by Senator Duckworth of the Trump “national security” team’s glaring incompetence, and, I might add, the culpability of lawmakers who voted to confirm them.
Once again, this Illinoisan is proud to be represented by an ACTUAL American warrior.
Pete Hegseth is a f*cking liar. This is so clearly classified info he recklessly leaked that could’ve gotten our pilots killed.

He needs to resign in disgrace immediately.

Destroying government documents violates the National Archives Act. It is a conscious effort to erase and distort history.
DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION:

My reporter Brett Murphy obtained a remarkable directive to folks at USAID: Empty the safes with the classified and personnel records and then,

"Shred as many documents first, and reserve the burn bags for when the shredder becomes unavailable or needs a break."

Experiments in thought control start with attempts to control language.
The next time that someone aligned with the current administration blusters about how they support free speech, post this list of words federal agencies are being told to avoid using.

Heaven forbid you use the word "injustice."

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them.

Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”
GLENN: Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office & you refuse to wear a suit. A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office.

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.
