Thank you. Hoping for the very best outcome.

Duchie’s fight isn’t over and she has a long way to go but I feel hopeful that we - Jason really - ensured she has been given the best chance to make it. Our veterinarians at Riverbrook Animal Hospital, OVS, and StatVet have helped to provide her with excellent care.

Today, it has felt like she is back to being Duchie. The sweetest, most gentle pup that has ever been part of our family. The one that we adopted from our vet 11 months ago when her owner of 8 years surrendered her. She really is a blessing to our family.

And yesterday, after 8 days of not eating…she ate, and she played and she hunted in her backyard.

It has also been a full 96 hours since she has had fluids on her lungs.

We know the fluid will likely come back but 96 hours with normal breathing feels (to me) like a bit of a miracle.

We just hoped that she would turn a corner - eat and take her meds. Her vets said everything we are trying is a Hail Mary.

We understand sick dogs. We have done chemo with two dogs, radiation with a different dog twice, the melanoma vaccine with this sweet girl.

But this has felt so different.

We fixed and bought her all types of food: steak, roast beef, chicken, chicken sausage, pita bread, peanut butter laughing cow, some ridiculously expensive prescription dog food, and more.

Last Friday, she started a chemo protocol. On Sunday she had 1.25 liters fluid drained from her lungs. I cried because it felt hopeless.

She stopped eating for a week. She dropped 10lbs.
She was struggling. We were struggling.

Last Tuesday she had 1 liter of fluid drained from her lungs. Last Thursday, she had .8 liters of fluid drained from her lungs.

My husband was advocating for different holistic care from our primary vet, an urgent care vet, and emergency vet care.
