Omg one of cats does the same thing with her fishing rod! She drags it into bed with us in the middle of the night and holds it in her mouth while kneading us. It’s adorable/infuriating

I think that “T” is what doomed the relationship

Maybe they were confused by “ABCT hit”

I’ve always wanted to and have *never* been called

Equity would require living wages throughout grad school, reasonable work hours, compensated practicum training, quality supervision, access to training opportunities, etc. Removing the internship req is a piece of that and maybe the simpler thing to focus on if you are in an academic clin dept

I would argue that all of clin psych training pre-internship relies on undercompensated labor. So I suppose you could tear the whole thing down, but I’m not what the end game is there

I also resented it (but hated my grad program way more). Removing the internship requirement would have tons of consequences (for patient care, licensure, training apparatuses in VA and elsewhere). It would have been nice if the ACPS statement was as thorough as this paper: osf.io/preprints/ps...

I can say with confidence that no internship faculty I know want to maintain the status quo (we lived through it for god’s sake), but dismantling is complicated and there are a lot stakeholders

Oh yeah, I think the VA could be a huge impediment to a major change
November 1, 2023 at 6:07 PM
Certainly. I’m just thinking that eliminating the internship req would necessitate changes in medical centers (e.g., increasing support/mentoring for new hires). Going from a, say, 10hr/week prac placement to a full-time clinical job would have broken me

I think internship is really important for people who want to work successfully in health care systems. So much of practicum training amounts to small, guest-starring roles in those settings and it’s just not great preparation for a full-time clinically oriented job

Yeah, was thinking this as well. There are lots of people out there whose jobs are quite reliant on the maintenance of the current system.

Likewise!
