For the first time in 50 years, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a construction permit for a new type of nuclear test reactor. Kairos Power will be able to build their molten salt-cooled Hermes demonstration reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

In short: using supercritical CO2 for geothermal heat extraction can support geologic CO2 storage while providing clean energy.

FYI: Battery storage connected to California's grid (@California_ISO) is now over 13% of peak demand in (7 GW vs 52 GW peak). And they added 1 GW in November & December 2023 alone. This happened fast!
