I'm muddling through life as best I can, looking for the bright spots in every day. Tired middle aged mom, gardener, fiber artist, reader, and Oxford comma enthusiast.
Today I am thankful that Harley got just enough snow to roll in this morning.

Today I am thankful that I had the foresight to buy enough ingredients for a double batch of cranberry punch. (Cranberry juice, fresh squeezed clementine juice, gin, sparkling white wine, and cranberries and clementines for garnish)

Harley got to go on two walks today! According to my fitbit, we went about 7 miles total. Today I am thankful that he is now too tired for shenanigans.

We've had some rough weather the past few months. From a distance, the trees look dull and stressed, but if you look closer, there are some spectacular leaves. (This post is not exclusively about foliage.)

People sometimes joke about New Jersey by asking "what exit?". Today I am thankful that I live in the part that's nowhere near the exit.

Today I am thankful for the full moon. I just took this photo at 8:17 pm eastern. It's almost bright enough to read by.

I finished The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd. Historical fiction based on the true story of a 16 year old girl who ran her family's plantations in the 1700s. Today I am thankful for women who kick ass in a man's world.

Today I am thankful that I can't skip my daily walk even if I'm not in the mood. I always feel better afterwards.

In today's adventure, we visited Kipikee, the rare solid-colored giraffe at Bright's Zoo in Tennessee. Today I am thankful for individuality. (And also for tamarinds, who are both adorable and entertaining!)

Today I am thankful for butterflies!

Mom and I went to a book signing at a local coffee shop. I'm about halfway done reading this book, and I'm struck by how much we have failed to learn about our own history. Today I am thankful that it's never too late for people to learn new things.

My mother and I enjoyed a short hike in the Smokies this afternoon. Today I am thankful that Mom is still active. (She doesn't like to publicly disclose her age, but there's not much hiking competition in her bracket.)

Today I am thankful for this.

Today I am thankful that the pollinator garden is done!

Based on an educated guess, today has been declared the official 4th birthday of this floof. Today I am thankful for animal rescue groups and for Dogs With Attitude.

It's my turn to look after the historical society garden. Today I am thankful for Alchemilla mollis (lady's mantle). It looks pretty and delicate, but in reality is tough as nails.

When I was about 8, my great grandmother taught me to crochet, but before we got to knitting her dementia took over. I've wanted to learn to knit for about 40 years. It's perfectly imperfect, but today I am thankful that I finally finished my first beginner knitting project.

Today I am thankful that my first knitting project is finally on the blocking board! (Disregard the washer and dryer, it was a nice flat surface.) When it's dry, it will be sewn together on the edges, have buttons added, and become a throw pillow.

Today I am thankful that Harley has STILL not managed to destroy his shark toy! This is the longest he's ever gone (almost a month!-and please excuse all the dog hair on the rug, he's a husky so he just sheds like that.)
May 25, 2025 at 12:53 PM
Someone is celebrating Mothers Day by camping with her baby in my front yard. Today I am thankful that we spotted him before the dog did!
May 10, 2025 at 10:26 PM
Today I am thankful that my lawn has reached it's spring peak. The neighbors hate it, but the pollinators and I think it's perfect.
