Kathleen also served as a co-chair of the World Climate Research Program Grand Challenge on Regional Sea Level Changes and Coastal Impacts. In 2017 she became a Fellow of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society and in 2020 she was awarded the CSIRO Medal for Lifetime Achievement.

Her contribution to this work was awarded Eureka awards in 2003 and 2009. She has published over 200 refereed publications, reports & articles and has been a lead author on several reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in the area of sea level, extreme weather & compound events.

Kathleen's work deals with how climate change will affect severe weather and coastal extreme sea levels with a focus on Australia and Pacific small islands. She developed climate projections for impact and adaptation assessments to assist local government manage and adapt to climate change.

An interdisciplinary scientist, Leanne is devoted to strategically delivering conservation and restorative action that is evidence based. Her goal is to improve the prospects of the millions of people intricately connected to seagrass ecosystems.

He holds adjunct professor positions at the School of LES, @deakinuniversity.bsky.social & the School of Law, @utas.edu.au. He’s previously worked in the fields of conservation policy and planning for government environment departments and agencies, & for non-government environment organisations.
